The hand is not just a part of the body, it represents the body.
What is this hand?
It is a facility, a capacity it helps make the imagination possible.
Making is like a dance, it has rhythm. The final pieces have rhythm.
My work celebrates the integrity of the hand made, which comes about through a repetitive and meditative making process.
Over time I have built up a relationship with the materials I work with. This means I can predict what they will do, how they will move. I can push them to their limits. And they can push me to mine.
I deliberately work with a low tech approach to making in search of a simple aesthetic.
There is a sensitivity toward the detail in things. I often apply myself to the miniature world, where making is done whilst holding my breath, in complete silence.
